Call for Papers

The Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences (JSBHS), sponsored by Walden University, welcomes manuscripts focusing on interdisciplinary research in the social, behavioral, and health sciences that address contemporary national and international issues.

Scholars, practitioners, and graduate students are invited to submit their manuscripts for publications.

Articles in JSBHS are published on an as-accepted basis; articles are published online immediately upon completion of an acceptable review.

Contributions are welcomed from disciplines in the social, behavioral, and health sciences, including psychology, public health, nursing, human services, criminal justice, social work, and sociology. Examples of desirable submissions would include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Translation of theory to practice in contemporary issues.
  • Relevant information for researchers and practitioners on best practices in design, intervention, implementation, evaluation, and outcomes.
  • Efforts that are the results of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Articles reporting the results of well-designed complete or partial replications of previously published research whether supportive of the original hypotheses or not.

Manuscript Guidelines

Four specific types of articles will be published in the Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences.

  • Full-length empirical articles. Comprehensive reports of findings from quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-design research studies.
  • Brief empirical articles. Succinct summaries of findings from quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-design research studies.
  • Comprehensive literature reviews. Articles providing summary and analysis of the body of existing research on a topic.
  • Student research. Empirical articles or literature reviews for which the first author is currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program.

Format

Manuscripts should be prepared using the style outlined in the current edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA). Because JSBHS is an online journal, authors should pay close attention to the electronic publication format appendix in APA Style Guide. Furthermore, to facilitate effective feedback, each line of the manuscript should be numbered.

The suggested maximum length for full-length articles is 20 double-spaced pages, not including the reference list, tables, and figures. Brief articles must be no longer than 4 double-spaced pages including everything.

Tables and figures should be inserted in the appropriate location in the manuscript and should be camera-ready. Tables and figures should be used only when essential; we suggest that no more than five tables and figures be included in the manuscript.

Each manuscript should include a numbered title page with the full title and subtitle, not to exceed 100 characters. Authors and author affiliations must not appear on the title page.

Authors should include an abstract on the second page of the manuscript, not to exceed 120 words.

A list of 4 to 5 keywords relating to the manuscript should be place directly under the abstract.

Copyright Guidelines

Manuscripts that have already been published or are being considered for publication with another journal will not be considered.

Authors are required to obtain written permission for the use of any table, figure, or extensive text extract of more than 50 words form a source which is owned or copyrighted by a party other than the author. A copy of the publisher’s written permission must be provided to the editor immediately upon acceptance for publication.
